Rubber Mulch - Arena Footing
Rubber Mulch Arena Footing is a strong, secure, dust-free footing produced from 100% recycled scrap tyres. Mixed with sand or other surfacing materials, Rubber Mulch / Chips gives your arena optimum traction and shock-absorption that lessens the strain on horses.
Even the weakest horses trot comfortably on Rubber Mulch's resilient and elastic surface, protecting their legs and minimizing bone injury. The shredded rubber mulch buffing or chips retains just the right amount of moisture to minimize dust, and require a minimum of maintenance.

How much Rubber Mulch / Chips do I need?
The ratio between Sand and Rubber is normally 1.5 : 1.0 (1 .5 Sand : 1.0 Rubber)
Calculations
Sand : Rubber = Total
1.5 : 1.0 = 2.5
Rubber SG = 0.5 kg/m³ - (Specific gravity is the density of a substance divided by the density of water.)
For example: - If your arena is 60m x 20m and you want the arena surface to be 100mm thick
Area x thickness = m³
(60 x 20) x 0.1 = 120m³
¤ 120/2.5 x 1.5 = 72m³ (Sand)
¤ 120/2.5 x 1.0 = 48m³ (Rubber)
Convert Total Rubber from m³ to kg (m³ x SG)
48m³ x 0.5 kg/m³ = 24 000 kg or 24 tons
In conclusion:
24 000 kg (weight) / 1200m² (area) = 20 kg/m² @ 100mm deep
In a nutshell:
5kg of rubber mulch material will cover 1 m² @ 25 mm deep.
10kg of rubber mulch material will cover 1 m² @ 50 mm deep.
20kg of rubber mulch material will cover 1 m² @ 100 mm deep.
30kg of rubber mulch material will cover 1 m² @ 150 mm deep.
